About
From as early as she can remember, there was always a camera in Rosie’s life. Her mother photographed every event, however small, that occurred to her and her siblings as they grew up. She remembers the g-plan desk, drawers bulging with packets of negatives and prints and super 8 film rolls. It felt as though her whole childhood was in those drawers. At 16 Rosie started studying photography at a further education college. With no real idea of where it was going to lead, she just knew that photographing people and their environment was what fascinated her. After going to Manchester Polytechnic’s School of Film for three years, Rosie worked briefly as a production manager on projects at the National Film and Television School before going back to college for one year to study photojournalism. From her early days working as a photographer for charities, Rosie went on to work on regional newspapers before returning to London in the late 90’s to start a freelance photography career. Since then, Rosie has seen her work published in newspapers and magazines around the world. She also works for corporate clients, helping them to raise their company profile through her strong imagery. In 2009, Rosie won The Press photographer’s Year, Photograph of the Year with an image of an orphaned elephant and her keeper taken at a rescue centre in Kenya. In 2009 there was an exhibition of her work taken at Birmingham Children’s Hospital where she spent some time photographing the lives of people at the hospital. Since 2006, Rosie’s photographs have appeared in ‘The Press photographer’s Year’ exhibition at the National Theatre and in the accompanying books. In 2004 her photographs were in the best selling book 5000 days and in 2003 she was involved in the group show ‘Unseen’ at the Inside Space gallery. Aside from these exhibitions, Rosie’s work has been showcased on The One Show on BBC1 and in photographic journals including The BJP, Professional Photographer and HotShoe.
